Omaha’s Top Fan Contest Rules


These contest rules are specific to the above contest conducted by NRG Media, LLC d/b/a KOZN (the “Station”). Except to the extent specifically set forth below with respect to this specific contest, the Station’s general contest rules apply to this contest as well. A copy of these specific contest rules and the Station’s general contest rules are available at the Station’s studio at 5011 Capitol Ave., Omaha, NE 68132, during regular business hours and on the contest page on the Station’s website at To the extent that the general contest rules differ from these rules, these rules will govern and control with respect to this Contest.

No purchase is necessary.  Void where prohibited by law.  All decisions of KOZN and NRG are final. Must be 21 or older to participate.  Participants cannot have previously worked or currently be working (paid or unpaid) as an on-air talent or sports radio host, or other radio programming position with on-air responsibilities.

Contest will run: Friday, August 9th, 2019 through Friday, September 6th, 2019.

Perform a 2 minute live radio talent “audition” at a location announced on-air and online on KOZN.

Six (6) listeners will move to the semi-finals, four (4) of those will become finalists, and two (2) will be named OMAHA’S TOP FAN.  The TOP FANs will have an opportunity to participate in one of KOZN’s live sports talk shows and will receive up to ten (10) hours of radio talent training from KOZN’s Program Director Mike Thompson.

How to enter:

The Zone will announce locations where listeners can perform a 2 minute audition to become the Zone’s Top Fan.  Prepare and perform a 2-minute audition piece – a rant or monologue – on any current sports topic (additional guidelines on

KOZN Program Director and staff will judge audition pieces on clarity of thought, expression, personality, humor and execution of presentation.  All decisions of the judges are final.

Six (6) listeners who audition will be selected as semi-finalists.  Semi-final performances will be broadcast on-air on KOZN from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on TBD

Four (4) finalists will be selected from those semi-finalists, and will again perform on KOZN from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on TBD

Two (2) of those finalists will be selected as OMAHA’s TOP FAN.

Participants who perform on-air will be required to follow FCC rules and station guidelines and direction as communicated by station staff.

OMAHA’s TOP FANs will win the opportunity to appear on one of KOZN’s sports talk programs as a guest, and will win up to ten (10) hours of training and coaching as an on-air sports personality with KOZN’s Program Director Mike Thompson.

Participants are responsible for their own transportation to the audition locations and the KOZN studio if chosen to participate in the semi-finals, finals and any future opportunities for on-air appearances.

Winners and guests shall be required to sign an affidavit of eligibility, release and indemnification. This affidavit attests that he/she meets the eligibility requirements and releases 1620 The Zone and NRG Media and its sponsors from liability in connection with the contest and prize.  Entry into the contest grants the right to NRG Media and participating sponsors to use winners’ name, voice and likeness and consent to live interviews without further compensation or time limitations.

Laws and Conditions: Void where prohibited by law. All federal, state and local laws apply. Any applicable federal, state and local taxes on the prizes, including on-air prizes, are the sole responsibility of the winner. Winners may be required to sign an IRS Form W-9 or the equivalent.

Limitations: 1620 The Zone, NRG and contest sponsors are not responsible for a contestant’s personal circumstances prohibiting participation in a contest or ability to claim the prize or other circumstances beyond their control.  Winners may make no substitution or transfer of prize. 1620 The Zone and NRG reserve the right to make changes to the rules of the contest, which will become effective upon announcement.  Nothing in any contest is intended to create or imply any contractual, fiduciary or other rights for the contestant or obligations, except as expressly stated by 1620 The Zone.  This is not an audition for employment with the station.

Winner, on his own behalf and on behalf of Winner’s heirs, successors or assigns, in consideration of participation in a contest, and for other good and valuable consideration, the receipt and sufficiency of which are hereby acknowledged, does hereby COVENANT TO FULLY RELEASE AND FOREVER DISCHARGE  NRG Media, 1620 The Zone, contest sponsors, and each of their subsidiaries, affiliates, related entities, directors, officers, employees, agents, and representatives, from and against any and all actions, charges, claims, losses, costs, damages, expenses (including attorneys’ fees and expenses) and liabilities of any kind or character, whether known or unknown, in connection with, arising out of or in any way related to Winner’s participation in or winning of any contest and/or acceptance, award, receipt, ownership or use of prize, or while preparing for, participating in, and/or traveling to or during the any prize related activity.


1620 The Zone, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to disqualify any person for (i) violating any of these rules, (ii) tampering with the entry process or the operation of Station (iii) gaining an unfair advantage in participating in the contest, (iv) obtaining winner status using false or fraudulent means or information, or (v) engaging in otherwise unsportsmanlike, illegal, disruptive, annoying, harassing, or threatening behavior.

Persons who violate any rule, gain unfair advantage in participating in the Contest, or obtain winner status using fraudulent means will be disqualified.

Unsportsmanlike, disruptive, annoying, harassing or threatening behavior is prohibited, and anyone behaving in such manner will be disqualified from participating in the contest and asked to leave any event associated with the Contest.

1620 The Zone is not responsible for any error or technical malfunctions associated that may affect any entrant’s ability to enter, win, or be properly considered in this Contest, regardless of the cause.

1620 The Zone, NRG Media, their subsidiaries and affiliates, their officers, directors, agents, stockholders, insurers, and employees, and their advertising and promotional agencies and sponsors assume no responsibility or liability whatsoever for damages, loss or injury resulting from participating in any contest or the acceptance or use of any prize.

Eligibility is further determined by, and compliance with, all specific rules stated for each Contest.  1620 The Zone, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to modify and correct any clerical or other errors in the Contest, contest rules or otherwise, including any pending misinterpretation or misunderstanding.

Failure to comply with the contest rules may result in a contestant’s disqualification.
