NSAA: Spring Activities Canceled for School Year

After the governor’s Directed Health Measure (DHM) Monday, all that was left for the Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) to do was make it official.

The NSAA said in a statement Thursday that all remaining “activity practices and competitions, including district and state competitions, have been cancelled for this school year.”

On Wednesday, Governor Pete Ricketts issued an updated DHM stating that schools must operate without students in the buildings through May 31. As part of that DHM, “Extracurricular activities are also cancelled statewide.”

The canceled designation as opposed to postponed means the NSAA spring sports of baseball, boy’s golf, boy’s and girl’s soccer, girl’s tennis, and boy’s and girl’s track and field will not have a 2020 season.

As part of the statement, the NSAA noted that “Bylaw 3.2.7 (Summer Activities) will go into effect on May 26th.  In the interim, Bylaw 3.2.6.1 (School-Year, Out-of-Season) is expected to be followed by all member school athletic programs.”
