2021 is shaping up to be a last hurrah for junior infielder and pitcher Spencer Schwellenbach.

Nebraska coach Will Bolt said on Sports Nightly Monday that “this’ll be the last year you see him in a Husker uniform.”

“That’s a good thing for the Huskers,” Bolt said. “That’s a good thing for Spencer. He’s a special talent.”

Through 18 games this season, Schwellenbach has been tearing it up.

At the plate, he bats in the three hole and is hitting .353 with 14 RBIs and a trio of home runs.

In the field, he has a perfect fielding percentage at shortstop with 45 assists, good for sixth in the league so far.

On the mound, he has yet to give up a run, earned or otherwise, over 7.0 innings of work, with 11 strikeouts to just two walks. That has produced four saves in six appearances.

And it isn’t just junk being thrown up there, Schwellenbach can bring the heat. He has consistently thrown in the 90s, hitting as high as 97 this season.

If this is to be the final season in Lincoln for Schwellenbach, he is making the most of it.

Husker fans have 12 more chances to see him at Hawks Field this regular-season, beginning Friday against Maryland.
