Nebraska stays on top of Big Ten with dominating sweep at Penn State

Nebraska (18-6) went into State College with chance to push themselves into the rankings, and left with a dominant sweep of Penn State (8-16).

The first game Friday saw the Nittany Lions leading 2-1 through six innings, but Nebraska posted a five-spot in the eighth inning as part of seven runs in the final third of the game for the 8-2 win.

Six Huskers had multi-hit games as Nebraska notched 13 hits in the win. Jaxon Hallmark went 2-for-3 on the day with a double and a triple.

Cade Povich gave up just two runs over 5.2 innings, adding six strikeouts and zero walks. Jake Bunz pitched 2.0 innings in relief to earn the win.

Saturday was much less stressful for coach Will Bolt, with Nebraska jumping out to a 5-0 lead after the first inning en route to an 11-2 win.

The Huskers racked up 17 hits on the day, with Cam Chick and Max Anderson both going 3-for-6 and Hallmark going 4-for-5.

Chance Hroch earned the win after 7.0 innings of two-run ball.

Having the series win in hand, the Huskers didn’t let up Sunday. Nebraska scored four runs in the middle third of the game as part of a 5-3 win to complete the sweep.

Only Anderson notched multiple hits in the finale, going 2-for-5.

Shay Schanaman earned the win after 6.0 innings with five strikeouts, giving up three runs with only one of them earned.

Nebraska, alone on top of the Big Ten Conference standings, stays on the road next weekend at Michigan State.
